Led by incumbent Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, nominees, leaders and members of the progressive partylist group marched to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to file their certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA).
Dubbed as “Kampeon ng Mahihirap at Kawani ng Pamahalaan” Bayan Muna has consistently fought for the betterment of the situation of our poor countrymen and goverment workers.
Bayan Muna is among the few who voted against the approval of the TRAIN law.The group along with other members of the Makabayan bloc had also filed measures like House Bill 7653 to repeal the TRAIN law and lower the now skyrocketing prices of goods and services. Bayan Muna also filed
House Bill 1760 to renationalize PETRON, House Bill 3676 to regulate the downstream oil industry and House Bill 3678 or the centralized procurement of petroleum in the country. The group is still calling on the House leadership to fast track these bills to shield Filipinos from the escalating oil price hikes which has now reached more than P14 since the start of the year.
Bayan Muna also filed measures to probe the unjust and exorbitant wate rates hikes and even took the issue to the Supreme Court to protect consumers.
For government workers, Bayan Muna filed House Bill 7197 to peg the national minimum wage of government workers at P16, 000 per month. The group also filed
House Bill 7415 to prohibit all forms of labor contractualization in the public sector. It provides for civil service eligibility for all non-regular employees who have worked continuously for at least six (6) months and provide security of tenure for all non-regular employees in the government and junk Joint Circular No.1 of the Civil Service Commission.
All this Bayan Muna would again pursue and push for more measures that would help government employees and the poor to have better lives. ###
