BAYAN MUNA CONDEMNS EJK OF NEGROS HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER
Bayan Muna chairman Neri Colmenares and Bayan Muna Rep.Carlos Isagani Zarate today condemned in the strongest terms the extra-judicial killing of Atty. Benjamin Ramos y Tarug, secretary general of NUPL-Negros, 56 years old, married, resident of Brgy. Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Colmenares who is also the chairman of the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) said that when human rights lawyers themselves are attacked, where can human rights violations victims go? This has got to stop!”
“Pres. Duterte you are a lawyer. You know you cannot be attacked on the basis of the clients you chose to represent. Your red tagging has led to the death of Atty. Ben,” Colmenares said on his Twitter account @ColmenaresPH.
“Ben was a colleague and a friend. Lawyers should not be attacked for the exercise of their profession. I ask the Supreme Court to step in and hold the perpetrators to account. This has got to stop!” said Colmenares.
Rep. Zarate meanwhile said: “Atty. Ben is one of the lawyers of the Mabinay 6 and even victims of the Sagay 9 massacre. Yet, now he was himself a victim of a deadly. This is gravely deplorable. The human rights situation in the country now has gone from bad to worse.”

Based on initial reports around 10:30pm last night inRojas St. Brgy. 5, Kabankalan City, Neg. Occidental. Two unidentified motorcycle riding suspects shot Atty. Ben and he sustained three gunshot wounds at the right back side and left upper chest of his body. He was declared dead on arrival at the Holy Mother of Mercy Kabankalan City Hospital.
“These attacks have got to stop and those responsible should be held accountable at the bar of justice.We will not let this cow lawyers from defending the poor and the oppressed,” ended Rep.Zarate
