BAYAN MUNA LEADS PROTEST VS SSS CONTRIBUTION HIKE
Says P1000 second tranche of SSS pension hike in peril due to new SSS law
At a protest action in front of the Social Security System (SSS) main office led by Bayan Muna Chairman and Makabayan senatorial bet Neri Colmenares today said that because of the newly signed Social Security System (SSS) law the much awaited additional P1000 SSS pension increase may be in peril and scrapped by the SSS board.
Bearing placards saying 1.) No to SSS contibution increase; 2.) Ayusin ang koleksyon ng SSS; 3.) P1000 pension hike ibigay na!; and 4.) Ibasura ang SSS law of 2018!; protesters lambasted the inefficiency of the the SSS board in their collection.
“Ang dapat nga ay ibigay na ang P1000 pension hike na ito sa mga pensyonado dahil hirap na talaga sila dahil sa taas ng mga bilihin ay mukhang mauunsyami pa ito dahil sa bagong batas ng SSS,” said Colmenares.
“Based on Section 4 and Section 18 of Republic Act 11199 or the SSS Act of 2018 ‘the SSS has the authority to set contributions and benefits.’ Meaning if they want to scrap the P1000 pension hike, they can do so because of the new law,” he added.
Meanwhile Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate said that “on the other hand the new SSS law removed Section 2 (b) of the old law stating that increases in benefits shall not require any increase in the rate of contribution,”
“This new SSS law is really anti-SSS member and pensioner. It increases the power and control of the SSS Board but not for the benefit of its members,” added the progressive solon.
“To register our firm opposition to this law we will hold a much bigger protest against SSS on March 13 so that the oppressive provisions of this law would be scrapped,” ended Colmenares.###
