BAYAN MUNA: Loan contract shows China contractors to corner China funded projects, putting Filipino workers at a disadvantage
In the midst of a public backlash on the influx of Chinese workers in the country, a P3.6 billion China-funded, government irrigation project in the Cordillera is going to be cornered by a Chinese contractor as a condition for the loan, possibly making things worse for Filipino workers.
Bayan Muna chairman and Makabayan senatorial bet Neri Colmenares said the leaked loan contract for the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project identified China CAMC Engineering Co. as the contractor
“Wala na ngang trabaho ang napakaraming mga Filipino ay mga Chinese pa ang malamang na kukunin sa deal na ito na tayo naman ang magbabayad. Talagang ginigisa tayo sa sarili nating mantika,” he said.
Colmenares lamented that despite the expensive interest rates and fees imposed by China, they still have the gall to require that the contractor be a Chinese company.
“Pero ang mas malaking tanong, bakit pumayag ang gobyerno na CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd ang contractor, eh marami namang Pilipino ang kayang gumawa ng proyekto?” asked Colmenares.
Colmenares earlier warned that the Chinese contractor would most likely hire Chinese labor, adding to an even greater influx of Chinese workers and leading to the displacement of Filipino workers.
“Sabi ni Pres. Duterte at economic managers nya na Build, Build, Build para may trabaho pero sa mga Chinese pala nya ito ibibigay,” added the Makabayan senatorial bet.
“Aside from this we would like to find out who are these Chinese consultants that will be paid P44 billion for these projects?Talamak na pagwawaldas na yan ng pera ng bayan,”he said.
Early this week the Department of Public Works and Highways disclosed that dozens of Chinese workers were working on at least two China-funded construction projects being built under the Philippine government’s massive infrastructure drive like that in Binondo bridge
“Pres. Duterte even said that ‘yung mga Chinese dito, hayaan mo ‘yan na dito magtrabaho, hayaan mo. Bakit? We have 300,000 Filipinos in China,’.Kapag ganito ang sinasabi ng presidente patay ang mga manggagawang Filipino,” ended Colmenares.###
