BAYAN MUNA CALLS FOR HEARING OF HR 2287 AS NAPOCOR PUSHES TO HIKE POWER RATES BY P1.89 per kwh DUE TO MISSIONARY CHARGES
Bayan Muna chairman and Makabayan senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares and Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate today called on House leaders to set a hearing for House Resolution 2287 probe the increasing budget subsidy for missionary projects for electrification instead of decreasing.
The Bayan Muna officials made the call as power rates are set to increase because of these missionary charges.
“For national consumers this would mean a P0.1948 per kilowatt hour if the the proposal of the National Power Corporation or NAPOCOR pushes through,” said Rep. Zarate.
“In concrete terms; these charges for households consuming 200 kwh per month would mean an increase to P38.96 of their Universal Charges-Missionary Electrification (UC-ME), P58.44 for 300 kwh households, and P77.92 for 400 kwh households.Also these additional charges would further compound the effect of the TRAIN law and would be another burden to our already suffering consumers,” added the Davao-based solon.
Meanwhile Bayan Muna chairman Neri Colmenares said that “aside from the additional charges to national electricity consumers; consumers in these supposed small power utilities groups (SPUG) areas will also be charged by another P1.89/kwh if the Napocor proposal pushes through,”
“The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) already scheduled hearings for the P1.89/kwh increase and we hope that concerned consumers and people’s organizations would intervene to register their opposition to the increase especially since there seems to be something with these missionary fees,” said the Makabayan senatorial candidate.
“The schedule of the ERC for the hearings increasing generation rates to SPUG areas by 1.8884 per kwh are as follows:
-San Jose, Occidental Mindoro Omeco office on April 24 9am;
-Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro Ormeco offices on April 25 9am;
-Puerto Princesa, Palawan on May 15, 2019 Paleco main ofc 9am;
-Boac, Marinduque on May 30 2pm Marelco main office,” said Colmenares.
“We hope that the House leadership can schedule a hearing as soon as possible because we need to protect consumers from another onerous charge,” ended Rep.Zarate.###
