BAYAN MUNA: CHINA’S AGREEMENTS ARE NOT THE SAME AS OTHER COUNTRIES’
Says that deals signed by Pres.Duterte in latest China visit should be scrutinized
Bayan Muna chairman and Makabayan senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares and Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate today debunked Chinese Charged Affaires Ad Interim Tan Qingsheng claim that ‘there are no hidden agenda nor strings attached with the Chinese loans in the Philippines.
“The loan agreements with China contain provisions not found in agreements with other countries. The mere fact that China want the loans to be confidential and the Department of Finance was only forced to make it public when we already exposed the disadvantageous deals to the public shows that they want to hide it from the Filipino who are the ones who will shoulder the loans. The fact that China imposed a confidentiality clause only shows it has a hidden agenda. This is no different from the corruption ridden and overpriced NBN ZTE loan agreement with China which, under Art. 39, also contained a confidentiality clause,” said Colmenares.
“The onerous Loan Agreement for the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project is like a secret loan deal that the Duterte administration was forced to admit into entering when we leaked a copy of the deal to the media,” added the Makabayan senatorial bet. “Why are we so obsessed with loans from China? DOF Sec. Dominguez and Sec. Pernia should inform the public if these Chinese loans give out “finders fees” to those who facilitate these loan agreements and they should identify those who earned big bucks because of these finders fees,” added the Makabayan senatorial bet.
President Rodrigo Duterte is now in Beijing,
and the Philippines and China might sign up another 5 bilateral deals.
Foreign Affairs Asec. Meynardo Montealegre said the agreements cover the areas of education, anti-corruption, official development assistance, and drug rehabilitation.
“Ngayon ay nasa China na naman si Pres.Duterte at kailangan nating bantayan kung ano na naman ang pinirmahan niyang mga deals doon na maglalagay sa Pilipinas at mga teritoryo nito sa alanganin,” ended Colmenares. ###
