BAYAN MUNA CALLS FOR PROBE ON AIRLINE WOES
Says approval of Bayan Muna’s Airline Passengers Bill of Rights can mitigate problem
Bayan Muna chairman and Makabayan senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares and Bayan Muna Rep.Carlos Isagani Zarate today called for an investigation on the horrendous airline delays and cancellation of flights suffered by thousands of travellers, tourists and especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“I myself suffered a seven hour delay of my CebuPacific flight last April for Bicol and I was forced not to attend a Mitong de Avance in Bacolod last May 1 because of flight delays of Philippine Airlines (PAL). This is very unprofessional for the airline carriers and they must be held accountable to consumers,” said Colmenares.
“This is the reason why we filed the Air Passengers Bill of Rights in the 16th Congress and was refiled by Bayan Muna in the 17th Congress under House Bill 6191. If enacted into law air passengers will be protected and compensated with P10,000 when airline delays and cancellations occur,” added the Makabayan senatorial bet.
Rep. Zarate meanwhile said that “an investigation must be launched to the airline delays and cancellations especially since we have received reports that Cebu Pacific has long been over extending their aircraft usage per day that even the maintenance window is being sacrificed,”
“It is said that they have been adding more destinations and frequencies without enought equipment (aircraft). We have also received reports that Cebu Pacific flight cancellations is due to union busting moves of the management to harass and fire their organized workers,” added the Davao-based solon.
“We are calling on House leaders to fast track House Bill 6191 and call a motu propio oversight hearing on this issue,” ended Rep.Zarate.###
